Busy @ Queens

Hey ya'll!!

So this week has been crazy. It's Greek Week!! yay! We've done some pretty cool things. The other day we had Miss Panhell..oh my goodness! It was a blast!! Joel was our guy and he was absolutely hilariouis! He wore a hot pink wig, and a white nurses outfit and was hitting on Dean Downey!! It was so much fun to be with all the sorority girls at school and have a chance to talk to their houses and things.

I have exciting news for everyone. I am adopting a cat on Sunday! yay! She's a white, black and orange munchkin cat! --which means she's like a weiner cat lol (like weiner dogs) she has really short legs. I love her, and she's going to stay at my boyfriends condo, since I can't keep her in my room :(

Tonight, I have a Dance Recital in Dana and I'm so excited! I'll be line dancin' next to my roomie and we're gonna have so much fun, so check back for some pictures from tonight!

Classes are winding down now, and coming to a close. I'll only have two exams, which is amazing! I really lucked out this semester. I only have Core and Business, but I'll have to study hard for both. I've almost finished all of my research papers, only one left!

Right now, I'm off to Citizens Forum for Core. I'm speaker support and we're debating on each of the issues we've discussed in our core classes. The classes are Food, Media, Environment, and Education. I'm in the food class and we're trying to end childhood obesity, so wish us luck! I think we'll do well, my class has a strong case and so I'm really proud of all of the work we've done in class.

Well, I'm on my way to Core, I'll write again soon!

Only 3 weeks left!!

Hey guys!

I'm sorry for taking so long to get back on here, I have just been so busy!! I still don't have a car and so life has been just miserable! It's so hard not to be able to get around, or go buy groceries, or do anything fun off campus. :( I'm so thankful that campus is never really dull and so I can always order pizza and have people over or hang out in the quad.

The other day my friends Jenn, Becky (my roomie!), and I made bird feeders before out ambassador meeting! We went to the caf and filled a to-go box with sunflower seeds, peanut butter, bread (white and wheat) and some chex mix and things like that and then got a bunch of good big pinecones on campus and covered them in peanut butter then rolled them into the seeds and mix, and then hung from the trees on campus from green string!! It was exciting!!

So campus is on it's way to going completely green and everybody is so excited!! The other day, the environmental freshman core classes had a huge Earth Week kick off party in the caf! Earlier in the year, students drew up designs for our "Queens Go's Green" t-shirts and we got to vote for our favorite and at the kick off party, the winner was revealed!!

The Vagina Monologues were done on campus the other day as well and were fabulous!! They were sponsored by the campus women's organization. Dr. Seelbinder did the famous moaning skit, and class was definitely ackward the next day lol!!

I've had two research papers to type this week, one for Communication and the other for Core. I have one for English due on Monday now too!! I'll be spending my weekend sitting right here on my bed typing and writing in my communication journal! My communication paper was on telecounseling and interpersonal communication as well as verbal. My core paper was on childhood obesity and next Friday we're doing a citizen's forum with the other core classes (mine is Food for Thought, the others are Media, Education, and Environment.)

I registered for 16 hours the other day!! So far I've taken 14 each semester and have just been able to deal with that, so wish me luck for next semester!!

Next year, I'll be living in Wireman!!! I'm so excited, I have a single, and my roomie right now will be down the hall from me so I can see tons of sleepovers happening lol. I'm suiting with one of my sisters, and I'm so excited, I see it being a great year!

Well, I've gotta run to my ambassador meeting, but that was a quick update on the past few weeks events, sorry it wasn't very fluid! I'll be back around tomorrow, talk to yall soon!

What a week...

Hey everybody!

I'm so sorry it's taken me so long to get back on here, however, I have had the most eventful week of year so far! Alright, so last Thursday I was having just the worst day; I had a bad headache, was loaded with homework and just needed a break! So I left the admssions office and went to see my roomie at the library and ran into her and two other friends of mine. Turns out we were all kinda havin' a bad day and so we piled into my car and headed to Carolina Place mall (near Pineville, about 20 minutes away). About two intersections before the mall we got into a bad wreck with another car! My car, an '06 Corolla S,  is totaled and by now is in a junk yard forever :( Img_0005_3 I was so sad, but everybody was alright, only small injuries and so we were taken to the hospital, checked out and released that night. We're all actually part of different sororites and that night all of our sisters plus other Queens students took care of us and checked on everybody and it was just so great to see everybody get together and really showed how much a big family we are at Queens! We're all like brothers and sisters and it's just nice to have people there for you in a crisis. My parents, though my mom did drive up from Louisiana that night, were definietly releived to know that we were all taken care of after such a tramatic event! So the wreck has definitely taken over my life: I mean, no transportation for my previously planned Spring Break trip to Florida, no more fun trips to the mall! It's really not that bad, people on campus have been so eager to help us get around and take us to our appointments and help us run errands, so I guess it's just that I really love to drive and not being able to has kind of cramped my style.

Aside from that, I've been having a fun spring break even without a car! For spring break, I went on two admissions receptions in Raleigh, and Fayetteville! It was so much fun at both events! I met future students and parents and got to do my favorite thing and mingle and talk about Queens! It was definietly exhausting, however, traveling with Jeff and Gilda, some very super awesome admissions counselors, and Dre, who works in the Blair House (That's where internships, resumes, and career and personel development stuff goes on :) ) was just so much fun that I'm so glad I had the opportunity to do it!

I only have two more days of spring break and I'm sad that I don't get to lay in my bed all day anymore, but at the same time super excited that there will be people around again! Well, it may be spring break but I still like to go to bed at a descent hour lol

I'll write ya'll soon!!

First Post!

Hey everyone!

I'm so excited that you've chosen to read my blog and learn about my experiences as a student here at Queens University of Charlotte! Let me first introduce myself: I'm Lauren. I'm a corporate communication major, a Queens ambassador, a telecounselor, philanthropy chair of Chi Omega, a roommate, girlfriend, daughter and student. Sounds like a lot to handle right? Well, I'm the kind of person who just can't live without chaos. I know that's the weirdest thing in the world but I just work so well with deadlines, hectic schedules, meetings and constantly being on the go!

I've moved so many times in my life that I've really learned to adapt well to changes and new surroundings. (I've lived in Berlin, Alabama, North Carolina, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, and Stuttgart just in case you were wondering... :) )So for those of you who are worried about the transition to college or have never left home you don't need to worry. What makes Queens so special is that we are a family, the students, faculty and staff. What really let me know that I made the best choice is when my family and I drove into the Albright circle on move-in day. My mother and I had come to visit in February and everyone was so excited to talk to us and seemed generally interested in me, it felt so good! On move-in day, however, those same people I talked to were the ones who were running to me, who even opened my car door as we pulled in! They remembered me and I felt so special!

Alright, well I hope you've gotten at least a good idea of my background and who I am. So I have exciting news for everyone! I took my Intro to Communication midterm last Tuesday and got a ....*drum-roll please*.... 92%! I'm really excited because I studied so much and even made my boyfriend suffer through me lecturing him on communication theories and vocabulary, etc. Speaking of my boyfriend, let me tell you about my two favorite people in the world, one being him, obviously. We met during my junior year of high school and flew to Charlotte together last summer to start college. We celebrated our two year anniversary last Monday! It was great, we got a heart shaped pizza from papa johns, watched RENT (my favorite musical, you should check it out!) and just hung out! My second favorite person ever, my roommate, Becky. We have gotten along SO well since the first time we met. I had called her on the phone over the summer and we talked a bit, but that was still nothing compared to how excited we were on move-in day! I actually saw her from across the residential quad, we both yelled and ran toward each other and gave each other big hugs!! I love her to death and I'm SO thankful that I didn't experience having a horror-story roommate! To be honest...which is ironic right about now....we both lied on our roommate matching forms. Maybe that's why we go so well together? It wasn't a big, horrible, bad lie though, we just wrote down that we're really quiet and very neat. So not true. Our room has been a work in progress since move-in day and we are the opposite of quiet.

That's us on the left outside of the Library, where she works!Becky_n_me_4 I work as a telecounselor in admissions. I really enjoy my job! I get to call students and let them know about exciting events that are coming up here at Queens and answer any questions they have about the university! I get really excited when I call students I've met at Discover Queens or overnight stays!

Well I'm definitely super sleepy (it's only 9:40, but I'm an old person and like my sleep :) ) I hope yall enjoyed my first blog, I can't wait to post more!!

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about Queens or if you have any questions about anything you've read in my blog! I'm eager to hear from yall!!!

Till' Next Time!

Lauren
