Feliz Navidad !

Feliz  Navidad !

First of all let me wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Last time I wrote to you I was a little crazy, not because of mental problems but due to the fact that exams were taking most of my brain’s capacity. Luckily they are OVER!! I remember on Wednesday I spent four hours writing two exams. I had Chinese in the morning and Business in the afternoon. After my business exam I was fried! But I am a survivor and here I am.

For Christmas, some of my frDiciembte_003iends and I played secret Santa. It was very amusing to be able to enjoy a game I had not played since my childhood (long time ago, ha-ha.) Unfortunately a good friend of mine had to leave for Chile and thus the days after exams I tried to help her pack and all that fun stuff. On Friday and Saturday we had a party for her. Me and some friends serenaded the Chelonian and made her cry- not because she was sad but because we were bad.

Sunday the 16th I left for home sweet home South Carolina. It was a very short ride considering that some of my friends live in Hawaii,Ethiopia, South Africa, Ohio and all over the U.S. and the world. I was very exited to see my family, friends and girlfriend.

One of the most important things a college student does when being home is sleep. As you probably know, in college you do not really sleep much. Sometimes it is because your roommate or you are watching a movie; sometimes it is because you have to study; sometimes you can not sleep; and sometimes it is because when you go to the bathroom for a late visit , you find people in the hall ready to tell you the latest and hottest gossip. Yeah! Everything is known here at Queens! Ha-ha.

Here at home I have relaxed and hanged-out. My plans at first were to work a week or two but I decided that I have to take advantage of this break and recharge my Energizers (batteries) so that I can be ready for next semester.

My Christmas Eve was very exiting. My family and I went to my girAnna_y_yo_4lfriend’s (Anna) house for her annual Chrsitmas party. At around eleven Anna and I went to a party at a band- mates’ house which was very pleasant.

Now my break is almost over and I have mixed feelings. I do not want to leave my house but at the same time I am very exited to go back.  I miss Queens and all the people that make it. I am impatient to see all the things I can do this semesDiciembte_043ter.

This blog turned out longer than I expected so excuse if I bored

you to death! I hope you have a prosperous New Years and

continue to thrive during 2008.

Thanks

Milenko

Exam Week!

It is very close to the end of myNovember_2007_149_2 first semester in college. During these few months I have pondered at many new ideas that have changed my point of view. It is very interesting to see how reading about the lives of others can change your perspective about a topic. Among other things, I read about Martin Luther King, Socrates, and I had the chance to analyze why I am attending college. This semester in my Core class we discussed how you “live a noble life” which really makes you discover who you are.

I am telling you this reflection because I have been studying for exams and that is one of the things I thought about.

Unfortunately, exams started this week. I am so unlucky that my first exam was on Saturday. Worst of all it was French which is one of my hardest classesL.

This week has been one of those where you have to focus and try to get everything done. All of the work cramps up and many people (me being one of them) feel very stressed. I have dedicated this week to prepare for exams and to turn in all the assignments and papers. On the bright side, however, this is the last week before we go to winter break. I am very exited to see my family and spend some time with them.

On Friday there was a "night breakfast" and some of my professors dropped their books and became chefs for a night. At around 10pm they served the students eggs, bacon, waffles, French toast, fruits, and doughnuts. It was a good time and it helped me get relaxed because I was a little stressed.

Other than studying and getting ready for my classes, I have taken some time to relax and have some fun. During this week I celebrated three of my friend’s birthdays. Tuesday at midnight me and some friends went to Francois’ room and sang happy b-day to him. Saturday I went to eat sushi to celebrate another b-day which was a very nice experience (it was my first time eating caviar.) Today I have studied all morning, took a little time to play soccer, and started studying again.

Fun Fun Fun!

  Well hello again!

During this week I have been very active. I felt like a ping-pong ball running around to all the events that were taking place. Moreover there are only two more weeks until exams so I have to prepare all my classes and work on many papersJ. In French and Chinese I am studying very hard subjects which take a lot of time to master. I do not know why but at I decided to take Chinese and French together so sometimes I get them mix-up and end up talking Frenchnese. In Core we had to write a personal mission statement which also requires lot thinking.  For those of you saying what in the world is Core? Core is a class that goes beyond factual knowledge (like math) and questions you.

So aNovember_27_013_2s I mentioned I had a lot of work to do and my brain was very tired but then I went to Boars Head. Boars Head is a tradition here at Queens. During this festivity, there a program and Queens’s students sit at a very nicely decorated table and eat a succulent meal. That day I broke my diet and ate everything- I even had seconds and thirds!

On Wednesday and Thursday I studied and was a good student. On Friday me and some friends from the ELS program had a meeting.  It was really interesting seeing so many cultures mix tNovember_27_012ogether. I thought it was really funny listening to this Korean friend rap-imagine how it sounded. Then on Saturday it was CASINO NIGHT! Casino night is also a famous traditioNovember_27_031n here at Queens. Everyone dresses in their best attire and goes to the nicely decorated cafeteria for a fun time. Just so you know you do not bet real money it is all fake Rex’s (our mascot) money. I lost all my money on the first hand. I was playing Texas hold them and decided to bluff and bet all my money- good thing it was not real. Casino Night had really good music and we danced the nightNovember_2007_205_9 out to Trance and Hip-Hop.

Today is Sunday and it is work day. I have to revise about five essays and need to study some more L

Thanks for reading!

Hola Muchachos!!

Hello!
Well first of all let me introduce myself!

My name is Milenko Fadic and I am a freshman here at Queen’s University. I was born and raised in the great city of Guayaquil. For those not very good in geography Guayaquil (can you pronounce it?) is a beautiful city in Ecuador. In 2003Scan10003 I moved to the United States and ended up in South Carolina. There I learned all the good and bad (but mostly good) things that the South has to offer. During my senior year in high school I was facing the very tough decision of determining where I wanted to go school. I was looking for something that would help me not only expand my knowledge, but also train my mind to think critically and ethically. I also wanted a place close to home so that I could visit my family every once in a while. I got to know Queens by mere luck. Personally I think it was destiny (ha-ha). I was at a college fair in S.C. and I just picked a Queens pamphlet. I saw it, liked at its Honor and International program , applied there and enrolled. Six months later I think back at it and I think that deciding to go here is one of the best decision I have ever madeFall_01_003_2.
One of the things I loved about Queens is its location. Queens is located at a very beautiful part of the city called, Myers Park. More important however is the fact that is Queens is in Charlotte. Besides the never ending traffic, Charlotte is a beautiful city. Personally, I loved Charlotte for its multiculturalism and good food. Here you can eat from Colombian to Indian to Korean food. I have only lived in Charlotte for three months but I know that there are many  things you can do. To entertain myself I go to play Table Tennis at a nearby park. I am a volunteer at a Coalition that helps Hispanics. Sometimes I go to an international meeting to try and speak French- the language of love.
I am really exited to be writing this blog, I hope this will be beneficial to you because I know it definitely helps me reflect.
